How do I know if I’m ready for therapy?
If you know there is something about your day to day that you want to be different- even if it’s the way you feel- and you haven’t been able to figure out how to do that on your own, that’s when therapy can help. Working on how to change how communicate with your partner, your thoughts, or dealing with anxiety better are all things that people address in therapy.
Usually I can handle my problems on my own. Why do I need therapy?
Universal truth- we all need help sometimes. We can’t go through life successfully without at least some help sometimes. Therapists are trained and have experience with helping clients figuring out the source of problems, processing those, and how to make changes or feel better about what they are going through. It’s really hard to see ourselves from the outside and objectively. That’s where therapy comes in handy.
What are therapy sessions like?
My therapy sessions are typically just under an hour long. At the beginning it involves you and I getting to know each other, and figuring out what you’d like to get out for therapy would (i.e. have less worries, be able to talk with your partner better). Sessions will then involve talking through how to address those issues- both the where your concerns come from and how it comes out in your day to day life.
Therapy is *kind of* expensive. Why should I spend the money on it?
It can be REALLY hard to spend money on taking care of ourselves. We usually can spend money on loved ones and on tangible bills easily. Therapy is an investment in helping yourself be the best version of you that you can be, a better partner or even friend to those around you. It can take you from just surviving to enjoying life. Life is too short not to take care of ourselves.
What will I get out of therapy?
People typically get a deeper understanding of yourself and your feelings, thoughts, and desires. You can also learn how to deal/cope with what you struggle with better- whether that’s thoughts you’re having, communication with people you care about, coping skills, etc. Folks usually feel a sense of relief by being able to share with an unbiased, third party, who understands and cares about what they’re going through.
Why don’t you take most insurances?
Unfortunately, insurance companies set reimbursement rates that are often too low to maintain a sustainable practice while being able to provide the quality of care my clients deserve. Also, a lot of times they don’t deem what people are coming to therapy for as ‘medically necessary.’
By staying out-of-network, I can really focus on offering you the best possible support without the limitations that come with insurance requirements.
